Handheld GPS Navigation Systems

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

GPS navigation systems now comes in many different configurations and styles. Among the many you will find are those that are factory installed, and those that are removable and are attached to the interior of your automobile through the use of suction cups or other mounting devices. And there the handheld models which other than having it’s own power supply can be powered by attaching a power cord to your cars cigarette lighter. These don’t offer quite the functionality of the larger fixed units but are still useful and quite versatile.

There are many reasons I find handheld GPS devices attractive. First of all, they can suit many purposes. They are useful when traveling by car (if you purchase the right software of course), getting you to the camping ground, which may lead you off roads as well. You can use them four wheeling in the country, riding horses in wide open spaces, hiking in the hills and mountains, or when getting away by bike for the day. They are excellent for, and indispensable devices for navigation on open waters. I’m a horrible navigator and a mapping handheld GPS is just the thing to keep me on track and on target.

I don’t know about you, but I hate feeling as though I am completely and utterly lost. It is a frightening feeling that is only intensified when you have children with you. The best thing to do is be prepared. Avoid putting yourself in situations where you will get lost. This of course, hasn’t always been always avoidable in the past. Having a GPS Navigational device on hand at all times can go a long way towards alleviating that fear. Since we must occasionally stray from the world we know and are familiar with, it is great to know that there are devices to help us find our way safely in these situations.

If you are looking for a great gift to give almost anyone on your Christmas list this year, a nice handheld GPS System with mapping capabilities is a great gift to give. Of course, you do not really need to wait until the holidays in order to give a gift such as this-especially if you are giving it to someone whose safety is of great importance to you. I think anyone who drives, bikes, boats, floats, hikes, or rows could find a great deal of use for tools such as this, particularly females who enjoy these activities and occasionally go it alone.

No matter what your specific needs in GPS Navigation Systems are, there are many that could suit them quite nicely. Take the time to study what is available and find the one that will work best for you. Handheld GPS systems with mapping abilities offer a highly affordable option along with some surprising extra features, which will make them attractive in and out of the automobile. Good luck in finding the perfect GPS Navigation System for you.

If you have managed to do any research on GPS Navigation Systems I’m sure you’ve seen countless features that these devices have. While not all GPS devices utilize the same technology, it is great to know that cell phones today in addition to handheld GPS systems are utilizing technology that make travel and supervising children, pets, and other loved ones easier to manage especially in today’s hectic world.

There are many ways that GPS technology can improve our lives both at home and while traveling. Below you will find some great ways that this technology helps improve your overall travel experience.

1) Travel Planning. Not only are GPS Navigation Systems great to have while on your trip, they are also quite useful when planning your trip. By entering your location and destination the GPS Navigation System will give you the best route to travel. It can give you the direct route or the scenic one; with fascinating places to stop, view scenery, and get some great food along the way. You should also be able to quite easily find out about great shopping, entertainment, and other points of interest en route to your destation. Finding something for everyone keeps the entire family happy on your trip.

2) Finding restaurants, theaters, and nearby malls. This is very important not only when traveling to your destination but also once you have arrived. Many of the classier auto navigation systems on the market today are able to sort restaurants that are nearby. These systems are much more than simple software that is designed for the sole purpose of giving directions. They are fully functional navigational tools. Some of them even have entertainment features, which will allow them to be used as ebook readers and/or MP3 players.

3) GPS Tracking systems to keep tabs of family members in crowded situations. Even in the mall, you can allow family members go off in different directions and keep track of them all. This can also be applied to graduation ceremonies and other crowded events, which may call for family members spreading out over a large area of space and usually out of sight.

4) Security when away from home. The idea of being away from home, particularly with teens can be very frightening. We want them to be independent and at the same time we want to never let them out of our sight. Having a cell phone that allows GPS tracking is a great way to have the best of both worlds. This allows them the freedom to pursue their own interests and you the security of knowing where they are.

5) Tracking important items while traveling. This may not seem like such a big deal until you’ve dealt with lost luggage a time or two. The truth is that this is a huge load off your mind, particularly when it comes to laptops and electronic devices that have important information. There are tracking devices that can be placed in or on items that will allow you to locate them if they are lost or go missing.

If you haven’t considered these reasons for purchasing a GPS Navigation System or making use of the many options for safety and security that GPS Technology offers, it is time to give these some serious thought. Our children are the most important things in the world that we have to protect and it is well worth the minimal investment in the hardware required to assist in keeping them safe.

Why Install a GPS Navigation System?

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

GPS Navigation Systems are wonderful gadgets even when you do not absolutely need them; and lets face it, we have all been completely and utterly lost at some point in time especially driving through an unfamiliar part of town. Of course, some of us are totally clueless when it comes to directions. More than I hate the feeling of being lost, I really get embarrassed asking for directions. And with my luck I usually end up asking some one who is as clueless as I am to begin with.

In today’s society, getting lost is not just a simple inconvenience or a waste of time, but can be quite dangerous in many places. Even for those with decent map reading and navigation skills, simple detours can still lead you astray as maps are not always up to date as one would like. I know when traveling it is very easy to take a wrong turn and end up in the wrong part of town and you do not know it until you are in it.

Becoming lost can be frightening and is intensified in situations where women are either driving alone or with their children, more so at night. Not only is there the uncertainty as to where you are and how to get back on track, but there is also the fear of things going wrong. These situations, and for ones peace of mind, are the very reasons that GPS Navigation Systems is such a great idea for anyone who travels frequently.

GPS Devices aren’t only useful to those who frequently travel, but can be useful to anyone who uses a car on a regular basis. At some point in time we all find ourselves needing to take detours because of road construction, traffic jams, accidents, parades, and for other reasons. Taking a detour at times usually places us a little out of the way of our known paths. This often rob us of familiar landmarks and it is very easy to become disoriented which could result in us going in a completely opposite direction of where we intended to travel. But if we have some sort of onboard mapping system, it would aid us in arriving much more quickly and with far less stress when reaching our destination. It is also quicker than trying to find our way by reading maps, or asking strangers for directions, which in and of itself could be risky.

I seriously recommend having a GPS Navigation System installed in your vehicle and for many reasons. The obvious is it can get you to your destination quickly and efficiently saving you both time and gas. You won’t have to worry about the battery failing as with hand held models.  They are easier to use while driving, and some have the ability to verbally give directions releaving you of the trouble of constantly looking at the GPS receiver.

Another reason to install a GPS Navigation device is this: how many times have you walked out of your house forgetting to take your cell phone, purse, driver’s license, or any other document or piece of equipment you need for your journey? I have done it many times and usually find that I am well on my way to my destination and it is too late to turn around. Finding yourself lost is the absolute worst time to realize that you left your GPS device at home and is generally the one time you need it the most. Having it installed in the car means you never have to take it out and as a result will never forget to bring it with you. As you can see there are many excellent reasons to have a GPS Navigation System installed in your vehicle. Once you start using it, you will wonder how you got around without it.

The Benefits of GPS Navigation System

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

If you’ve been recently looking to purchase a new car, truck, or SUV , then you must have seen the vast number of vehicles sporting shiny new GPS Navigation Systems as part of a package upgrade. These systems are quite handy when stuck in traffic or when roads have been closed due to nasty weather or traffic pile ups. They can come in equally handy when faced with every day driving if you use them consistently.

Many people unfortunately purchase these systems because they seem like a good idea at the time and then never really use them. GPS Navigation Systems are great when you find yourself lost in the woods so to speak, but they can help you find alternate routes when traffic is busy on your regular drive to work. They can help you avoid roads that have been closed for maintenance, or even find a quick way around road work that is being performed along your route. These devices can also help you find shorter routes to your destination that you may not have been aware existed before. They can also remind you to turn at the next exit before you pass it and have to drive an extra five miles to turn back.

Of importance when considering a new car, or a new GPS Navigation system for an existing car is how much  you will actually use your system. Even if you use it for emergency use alone, it is quite possible that in an emergency this device will be worth ten times what you originally paid for it because it could save jobs, time, or even lives (particularly if you are lost and searching for a hospital).  For me, it is hard to put a price tag on the comfort that owning a device such as this would bring but it is definitely worth the $500-$1,000 that is currently being charged. Keep in mind that when these systems first hit the market $1,000 was on the ultra low end.

Technology is only good when it’s useful to people. For those of us who travel long distance often and need to get to places on time.  The GPS navigation systems available today are the most useful tool available and is worth every red cent.

How Do GPS Navigation Systems Work?

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Have you ever thought about the many benefits that having a GPS Navigation System will bring to your travels?  Modern GPS Navigation Systems on the market today provide much more than simple directions from point A to point B. Today’s GPS Navigation Systems are your personal tour guide when it comes to finding points of interest, restaurants, fueling stops, and places to sleep along the way.

The thing to remember is that not all GPS Navigation Systems are equal. There are different levels of designs with varying functionality to meet each customers needs. However, they all work on very similar principles.

GPS Navigation Systems use geo stationary satellites that orbit the earth and send signals that are received by the GPS device. The GPS device has software that interprets the signals and uses that data in order to form conclusions about the current location based on the time it takes to receive the signals from the satellites, and the exact location of the satellites that sent the data. By combining that information a fixed point can be drawn by the GPS Navigation System as to the exact position of the GPS device. Three satellites are used in order to determine the point of intersection and a fourth satellite insures the accuracy of the data.

Modern GPS Navigation Systems are more sophisticated and much more functional than the original military GPS devices. You not only get directions to guide you on your trip, but also alternate directions to make up for detours, and also to get you back on track after wrong turns. You can also get information about local destinations, restaurants, hotels, gas stations, and other points of interest along the way. Many GPS systems now offer upgrade packages that will provide you with up to the minute information about traffic, weather, and road construction along your route. The subscription costs for these services may be a obstacle for the regular driver but will prove invaluable to those who rely on accurate directions and being on time while traveling extensively through work.

When purchasing a GPS Navigation System make sure that the system is not only full upgradeable but also easily upgraded. Many of these systems can be upgraded by using a CD or DVD in order to deliver the information and upgrades. If you can’t upgrade your system it will become obsolete in time as new roads are constantly being made and old roads are often closed for reconstruction and upgrades. If you do not have the latest data on roads you are essentially driving just as blindly as you would be without a GPS Navigation System.
